Race Skis Sidecut Comparison Chart (2024/2025)

The sidecut and construction method are two of the most important factors in determining how skis will perform. The following five brands consistently produce the best race skis available. Note, FIS the international governing body, restricts side cuts for FIS level races. However, WIJARA, does not enforce sidecut rules, therefore it's best to find a race ski that does not require a restriction. Use the charts below to find a Giant Slalom and Slalom ski with greater sidecut to increase carving capacity.
Concerning construction method, you want to look for skis that use the "sandwich" method.

Which Skis Have the Most Pronounced Sidecut?
Just for curiosity sake I did a quick comparison to see which skis have the most pronounced sidecut ratios, making them highly responsive in their respective categories.
For GS skis with the greatest Ratios...
• Shovel to Waist Ratio: Völkl Racetiger GS FIS, Shovel to Waist Ratio: 56.92% with Dimensions: Shovel = 102, Waist = 65, Tail = 84
• Tail to Waist Ratio: Nordica Dobermann GS WC Dept, Tail to Waist Ratio: 29.23% with Dimensions: Shovel = 101, Waist = 65, Tail = 84
For Slalom...the following skis have the largest ratios.
• Shovel to Waist Ratio: Völkl Racetiger SL FIS Shovel to Waist Ratio: 84.62% Dimensions: Shovel = 120, Waist = 65, Tail = 101
• Tail to Waist Ratio: Nordica Dobermann SL WC Dept, with a Tail to Waist Ratio: 60.0% imensions: Shovel = 119, Waist = 65, Tail = 104
