Ski Racing Equipment Lists

Summary: This page is dedicated to making sure you have a complete source for what to bring ski racing. As your ski racer matures, there equipment needs will evolve and grow too. I have adapted this list to cover both young developing racers and older racers, as well as what to bring on a skiing vacation.  I've also added a section on what coaches should bring to the top of a race hill as they prep prior to their race.

Disclaimer: The lists are dedicated to ski racing, they do not cover street clothes or bathing suits for the hotel.

What to bring often depends much more on experience and wisdom vs. knowledge. Put all three together and you get the most effective and productive results. It's for this reason, there are two lists included in this post. One is for new racers and families just starting out, then there's the second list for a more experienced racer.

Another important note, weather is frequently a main driver that'll help guide you on what to bring. My personal rule of thumb is to take what the weather forecast says then subtract 10 degrees, in order to make sure you stay warm enough. And, if rain or snow is in the forecast, make sure to bring extra changes of base layers to switch into in between runs, especially socks and gloves.

Please feel free to ask a coach or a board member if you have any questions.

Season Passes or Tickets

This is an item you don't want to forget. Important to know ticket policies for the resort you're going to.

For away races make sure that you sign up for tickets online so that you may collect them on arrival.
Make sure that the names on the forms are correct, as most hills will make you fill out the form again.
Print out a copy of the receipt and make sure to bring it with you.

Goggles

Most of the team's training session is done at night.  It's critical that kids have night-skiing lenses, either yellow or clear lenses.  Day skiing lenses are simply too dark. Dark lenses should be kept for only sunny days.

Insulation

Many of our training session are in very cold conditions, with practices running down to -20 windchill.
Please make sure that you have an extra insulation layer handy.

For away racers, when you're racing two days in a row, be sure to add in 2 pairs of base layers, socks, etc.
