About Sundown Race Team The Sundown Race Team provides kids a chance to experience Alpine Ski Racing in Eastern Iowa. Ski racing is a great way to expand your son or daughter skiing skills -- a sport they'll be able to enjoy for the rest of their lives. The Team places an emphasis on safety, improving technique, and building sportsmanship within each team member.
		Sundown Race Team is a non-profit club linked to Sundown Mtn Ski Resort, in Dubuque, Iowa. The team primarily trains and hosts races on Andrew's and the Snow Devil trail, to the left side of Sundown's terrain park.

Ski Racing Opportunities

SRT competes against other regional teams via participation in WIJARA (Wisconsin Iowa Illinois Alpine Racing Association). Wijara consists of eight other teams besides SRT, including: Chestnut Mountain, Tyrol Basin, Cascade Mountain, Snowstar, Hidden Valley, Blackhawk, Four Lakes, & Wilmot.  Below you can learn more about SRT & WIJARA. Four Weekends of Racing

Each season consists of four weekend events; two in January and two weekends in February. Sundown, Chestnut, Cascade, and Tyrol Basin each are host hills. Each weekend, teams compete in one day of Giant Slalom (GS) on Saturday's and one day of Slalom (SL) on Sundays.

Sundown Race Team Quick Facts

• The SRT program is one of the three largest teams in WIJARA, with approximately 85 to 95 racers registered with the team annually. 

• SRT has approximately ten coaches not including our Junior Coaches. (Junior coaches are senior team athletes who assist the team in a coaching roll at practices in order to learn about coaching.)

• Children Ages 5 & Older. Young children must be either able to load & unload from the chairlift by themselves or be accompanied with an adult.

• Practices Tuesday & Thursday 6:15- 8:30pm & Saturday morning practices from 8:15am-11:30am.

• $250 per racer includes Coaching for all practices & Unlimited Free Nastar Runs on Saturdays.

• $32 WIJARA Registration Fee.

• Participants must be able to load & unload chairlifts and navigate black diamond trails in control.

• Hard-sided helmets are required to race per USSA ski racing regulations.

• Racers need to own their equipment, including skis (no twin tips), boots, poles, helmet, and goggles.

• Sundown Mountain & Sundown Race Team are proud supporters and members of WIJARA (Wisconsin/Illinois/Iowa Junior Racing Association).
